Jackson is an 8 year old OTTB gelding.  He has been with his new owners for approx. 3 weeks.
Jacksons new job at his new home is to
be the primary riding horse for a young girl.  Jacksons new
owners are interested in getting him as comfortable and happy as possible.

In his previous life he lived in a stall with a run and ate of diet of primarily alfalfa.   At our first meeting
on 8/14/09 I observed Jackson to be pretty body sore, very tight muscles over the majority of his
body.  His demeanor was somewhat depressed.  He had small reactions to insect bites at various
places on his body.  He was a little sweaty.  His back was sore to the touch in several places and his
belly was painful. His overall temperament, was nice.  Even though he
was feeling some discomfort,
hes a very agreeable horse.

After our meeting on 14th, Jacksons new owner switched him to orchard grass hay, and began giving
him Vitamin E and ground flax.  He gets the E & Flax in a small mixture of soaked beet pulp & grass
pellets.

I wasn't able to truly balance Jacksons minerals to his hay, because of the frequency of which, hay
will need to be purchased, so I worked off of area averages.  I came up with very conservative
mineral numbers for Jackson, but they should still be quite beneficial to his health.   He began the
addition of Copper, Zinc & Phosphorus (in the form of a little wheat bran)
on 8/22.  We will re-evaluate
Jacksons progress
in about a month.
