Whiskey is a 12 year old QH gelding. He has been with his current owner for one year. His diet for the past year has been straight alfalfa. As of a few days ago, he was switched to an 80/20 mix. In addition to that he gets 1 quart of grass pellets and 1 quart of Wellsolve pellets. His current job is that of pleasure horse, he is ridden once a week. His job in his previous life was that of a barrel horse.
He had a good attitude when I met him today and was friendly when approached. He didn't seem at all nervous. Hes a horse who knows his job and tries hard to please. He has had some health issues. Last year he contracted Pigeon fever, he appears to have recovered from that. He has a few warts on the inside of his chest on the right side of his body. He has a lump in his throat that has been diagnosed by the previous owners vet as a fatty lump aka a lypoma. It is believed he has had a laminitic episode in the past. He is currently shod on all 4 hooves. He is currently traditionally wormed and vaccinated. His last round of vacc's was in April of 2009. He will be switching to a mineral balanced diet in a couple of weeks.
September 22, 2009 Here are some updated Photos of Whiskey. He has been on Added Vit. E and ground Flax since the middle of August. He was also given some herbs to help detox his body. He began his balanced minerals aprox. two weeks ago.
Since beginning his new diet his owner has observed the following changes. He has several warts on his chest that he has had for years. They recently opened up and began weeping. He has had a lump in his throat that he has also had for years, the owner believes it is reducing in size. His coat is soft and shiny and the color is deepening, his dapples are more prominent.
Whiskey is a bit uncomfortable in these newest photos, he just had his front shoes removed the day prior. I think his recovery will be quick.
